Calling all Good Troublemakers!

Calling all Good Troublemakers!

Calling all Good Troublemakers!

I am writing to entreat you not to accept the ramming through of the new SCOTUS appointment without a fight. I am going to DC on October 17th to take part in the Women’s March to decry the hypocrisy of Republicans who denied President Obama the right to appoint a Supreme Court Justice nine months before a presidential election but who insist, a mere four years later, that Trump be allowed to make an appointment during a presidential election.

As important as our rise in DC, is our rise in key battleground states where Republican Senators are currently fighting to keep their seats. While we may not be able to count on Republican Senators to act out of principle or honor, it has been shown we can count on them to act out of self-interest.

We only need 4 Republicans to step out of their party line to change the outcome. Two have already pledged to do so, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and we would do well to thank, support, and encourage them to hold fast.

That leaves two more.

Is one of these people your Senator? If so, you may be thinking, “My senator doesn’t care about me!” and you may be right, but I guarantee they care about their job. In their echo chambers on Capitol Hill, surrounded by their gang, they may feel they can get away with anything, but back at home, where they live and breathe and seek reelection, you may have a chance to sway them.

It is worth a phone call and an email and showing up (in a mask!) to your local Women’s March on October 17th to insist they stand against this unconscionable judicial power grab.

Here’s where you can find out how to contact your senator including those who aren't listed above.

Each of our voices matter and every day counts. Never stop believing we have the power to change outcomes! You just never know which of us, with our voice raised high, will become the tipping point.

in love, solidarity and rage until it’s right,

your folksinger
